Mt.Katamuki Hike from Hinokage Town

The Sobo and Katamuki Mountain Range has one of the largest virgin forests in western Japan.
“Mt.Katamuki(傾山)”, the famous peak of this area.We will introduce a walking course from Hinokage Town.

Mt.Katamuki(傾山)

Mt.Katamuki is one of the famous mountains of the Sobo Katamuki mountain range.
It’s a beautiful rocky mountain, but the course from Hinokage Town takes a short walk to the summit.

The view from the top of the mountain is spectacular with a 360-degree view.

The “tsuzuragoshi” trailhead is the starting point, but you will drive on a dirt road to the trailhead. Therefore, a 4WD vehicle with a high vehicle height is required. Mobile phone signals do not reach near the trailhead, so be careful not to get a punctured tire.

Since the road leading to the trailhead is unpaved, there are few people on the trail from this trailhead, so you can enjoy a comfortable hike.
It takes a long unpaved road to reach the trailhead, but the river in Hinokage Town that you can see along the way is highly transparent and very beautiful. This river is also famous for trout fishing.

Cedar forest up to the ridgeline

It takes about 30 minutes to walk from the trailhead to the ridgeline.
You will walk through a cedar forest until you reach the ridgeline, but as you approach the ridgeline, the virgin forest will gradually appear.

Space for tent stay

When you arrive at the ridgeline, there is a large space where you can stay in a tent.
It is also recommended to enjoy nature slowly by backpacking. (Bonfires are prohibited.) There is also an unmanned mountain hut nearby.

I also like to enjoy the evening hours here.

Once you reach the ridgeline, you are about halfway to the summit. Head to the summit while walking through a beautiful virgin forest. The ridgeline of Mt. Katamuki is beautiful even in the season of autumn leaves.
