If you are hiking the Kirishima mountain range for the first time, we recommend popular mountains such as Mt. Karakuni(韓国岳) and Mt. Takachiho-no-mine(高千穂峰).
If you are able to visit the Kirishima Mountains regularly, I would like to introduce you to the mountains that you should visit at least once.
Mt.Hinamori(夷守岳) & Mt.Maruoka(丸岡山) located at the edge of the Kirishima mountain range, is not a popular mountain, but you can enjoy beautiful forests on the mountain with a good view.
Triangular pyramid mountain
In Japan, the triangular pyramidal mountain is compared to Mt. Fuji, and Mt. Hinamori is called “Ikoma Fuji(生駒富士)” from the name of the place at the foot of the mountain. Mt.Hinamori, which is shaped like a triangular pyramid, is a steep uphill all the way from the trailhead to the summit.

The first half goes up in the forest, but as the altitude increases, you can enjoy the surrounding views. The slope of the climb is steep, so walk slowly.

If you have enough energy after taking a break, we recommend heading to the neighboring mountain “Mt.Maruoka”. The forest on the mountain trail to Mt.Maruoka is beautiful, and you can see a wonderful view from Mt.Maruoka.

There is a steep slope between Mt. Hinamori and Mt. Maruoka, so be careful not to fall over when walking on steep slopes. After finishing the steep incline, you will walk through a beautiful forest.
